I thought the trajectory of the story in the second book was too predictable, but this is the only relatively major problem I had with Essex County.



The stories are told from different perspectives and the transitions were neat; however, at times, the shift in perspective left me confused for a page or two.



The three books are interlinked but remain fairly linear; I did not find it hard to piece together a grand narrative.



I thought the art paired well with the theme, and I liked how Jeff's poetic intros and outros—a la Lynne Ramsay in film—brought the stories together as if they are parts of a large tapestry. Although it did take me few seconds to decipher a handful of panels, I can safely say that non of the art was too abstract to break the flow of the book.
